VCS Music Ed Philosophy
Within the academic soil of Vandalia Christian School, the Music Department exists in order to create students who may glorify God (1 Cor. 10:31) by skillfully producing sound with instruments (Ps. 33:3) and voices (1 Chron. 15:22; 25:7; Ps.81:1,2) through classes, competitions, concerts, and individual lessons so that students may worship God, edify fellow believers, and testify of God’s grace before unbelievers (Col. 3:16; Eph. 5:19,20; Ps. 40:3).
Goals:
In order to accomplish this mission, the VCS Music Department will:
1. Promote the greatness of God through God-centered teaching.
2. Provide training that will enable students to play excellently.
3. Teach music theory so that students will understand, read, and compose music, not just learn music by rote.
4. Challenge the student to glorify God and not themselves during performances and competitions.
5. Buy and maintain equipment and materials that will enable students to make music more proficiently.
6. Expose the students to new and varied music repertoire.
7. Provide venues at which students may perform.
8. Include as many students as educationally possible in music-making activities.
9. Employ talented, capable, and godly faculty.
10. Work with parents and faculty in order to encourage participation and cooperation with the music program.
